Our eyesight is precious

The trend is visible. More than 60% of video content is being watched on portable devices. While screen time has risen to more than 10 hours day, for an average American Adult over 18 according to Nielsen Audience Reports. The world’s internet users are spending an increasing amount of time online (more than 6 hours per day on average). Over 40% of our brain’s neural matter is devoted to visual communication (greater than all the other senses combined). The visual content we’re enjoying is increasingly digital. And we’re spending ever more time in front of visual display devices – all of which produce unnatural amounts of harmful high-energy blue light at night.

Our Mission

We believe in making the digital experience colorful, lifelike, efficient and safe. We believe that blue is a normal part of daytime, and a necessary part of a healthy life. But screen filters, blue blocking glasses, and software fixes, are not effective solutions to reduce risk of over-exposure to unnatural levels of dangerous blue at night. To make screen viewing colorful as well as safer, we realized that systems dependent on high-energy blue, in an R-G-B display, needed a fundamental re-think. By focusing instead on removing the problem at the source, VividColor EyeCare displays can prevent unnatural wavelengths more effectively - simply by not producing harmful blue, in the first place.

How our technology works

Modern display devices are based on creating the color images we perceive, from pixels made of just three primaries : Red-Green-Blue. Because of that system, every color hue and shade emitted (except pure red, or green, or brown), must include some amount of blue – even for black & white text. The challenge: the pixels of information flowing in the digital world, are based on the specific assumption of a narrow-band blue, from 440~460nm in wavelength. Right in the peak of the Eye Hazard zone (per American ANSI, and International IEC ty standards), and in the sleep-disrupting range of melatonin suppression (the melanopsin response wavelengths).

To fix the problem sooner, we set about rethinking what is possible in the pixels of existing LCD (or OLED) displays, and built a solution based on changing the wavelengths of light generated at the source using VividColor EyeCare technology, and enabling dual-mode operation, compatible with existing display panels, and future near-eye AR/VR displays. Giving a colorful, safe, night-time viewing experience without high-energy blue. And yet, also providing an unbounded full-color gamut HDR experience for daytime/content viewing.

What that means for your display devices

Less eye-strain. No more washed-out dirty-brown night-shift colors. Images look realistic again. Black & white text looks paper-like again. And in daytime use, or whenever you want: VividColor EyeCare, without needing to remove eye-protection films or glasses.
